Sprat - a subspecies of small game fish herring family. Baltic herring inhabits the waters of the Baltic Sea with a reduced  Sprat - fine food fish
   salinity and is called the Baltic herring.

Sprat length is 20 cm (in some cases, up to 37 cm), weight - 76 grams. This small fry is the champion of the Baltic Sea fisheries, accounting for more than 50% of the catch, produced in the area.

Baltic herring differs from herring spawning in the Atlantic sea, low-fat, but it is an excellent product for the preparation of sausages, pickles and marinades. In some areas of Russia herring has a proud name "fumade."

In Sweden and Finland, the Baltic herring is the national dish, and in the Netherlands each year arranged a festival in honor of this tasty and useful fish.

Use herring

How to cook herring

Like any other fish, herring preferably steamed, grilled or baked in the oven, not more than 20-30 minutes - it will keep the product in the highest amount of nutrients. In salted, smoked and dried herring benefits it is still, however, the nutritional value of these products is greatly reduced.


Due to the frequent use of herring in salt form, to abuse of the fish is not recommended for people suffering from kidney disease, high blood pressure and swelling of the extremities.
