Vascular cyst

 Vascular cysts on ultrasound images
Choroid plexus is one of the first structures that appear in the head, and can be seen already from the sixth week of fetal development. They concentrate the sugar and produce cerebrospinal fluid - CSF, which is needed to supply the brain and spinal cord. Choroid plexus - a complex structure. Having both vascular plexus indicates the development of both halves. If the brain is not divided into two hemispheres - it is considered one of the most severe malformations, and called this defect "holoprosencephaly." Vascular plexus nerve did not contain cells, but, at the same time, is very important for the development of nerve cells in the brain, as sugarless liquid which is made to, is the primary nutrient liquid developing nerve cells in the early stages of development.

Causes of choroid plexus cysts

In some cases, a drop of cerebrospinal fluid can trap within the choroid plexus. Since vascular cysts are formed. They represent the cavity, which contains the cerebrospinal fluid. May develop as a choroid plexus cyst of the right and left choroid plexus cysts. As a rule, are vascular plexus cysts in both during ultrasound 18-20 weeks of pregnancy in pregnant 1-3 of 100.

Choroid plexus cysts in the fetus does not affect the brain. Most vascular cysts resolve to 24-28 weeks of pregnancy. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the brain in the embryo develops only 24 weeks after conception.

According to research by the American Association of AIG, 90% of all cases of choroid plexus cysts in the fetus are resolved independently by the 26th week of pregnancy, 50% of the vascular cysts were bilateral.

The cause of vascular cysts later, after giving birth, the fetus can be defeated by different infections, complications during pregnancy, minor bleeding during childbirth and herpes. In most cases, vascular cysts eventually themselves are without any treatment.

Diagnosis of vascular cysts

Infants vascular cysts detected by ultrasound of the brain - neurosonography. It is recommended for passage of all children under one year to rule out vascular cyst and any other defects of the central nervous system. It is especially recommended for premature babies, newborns with too much or too little weight babies who have neurological symptoms, received a birth trauma, or have suffered hypoxia. Sometimes cranial ultrasonography may also be administered to children who have unusual shape of the head, facial structure, defects, features or abnormalities in the structure of any other bodies. Neurosonography - method of diagnosing vascular plexus cysts

Neurosonography is simple and absolutely safe method for the baby. Research is usually carried out through a large (front) fontanelle. It is important to do before closing fontanelle, as ultrasonic waves of high and medium frequency do not pass through dense cranial bones. To study the low back and central parts of the brain that are remote from the large fontanelle used anterolateral (temporal), cervical and posterolateral fontanelles.

Is it dangerous to vascular cysts?

By themselves, choroid plexus cysts in the fetus are not dangerous for his future health. But their presence increases the risk of the unborn child of chromosomal abnormalities such as Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18) and Down syndrome (trisomy 21). As a rule, in these syndromes often detected vascular cysts in the fetus.
